Boy Scout Statue, Washington, D.C.
Hmmm.
The Boy Scout looks chipper enough, but why is the Scout Master on the left coming out of the woods with his clothes under his arm? Just wondering.

Yes – makes me wonder too! Are there ‘Evil Doers’ in the Boy Scouts? Yes – they’re every-where!

Aw, I was just kidding. I was first struck and amused by this statue 15 years ago while visiting D.C. The Scouts were in a panic over revelations about some of their Scout Masters’ goings on, I myself was working with a troop which forbade any one adult from being alone with boys, ever, and I saw this trio. It was obviously erected – if you’ll pardon the term – in a more innocent time. 1937, to be precise, right outside the White House and on the spot where the scouts held their first Jamboree. Different times – I’d say “better”, but WW II’s horrors were just a few years away and in fact had already begun, in Germany.
