Maybe the Madoff boys should buy Leona’s house so the kids can visit Granny in Bedford Prison

Folks are beginning (?!) to wonder what role Bernie’s wife Ruthie played in his Ponzi. Nothing yet but as Leona could have told the boys, it’s an easy trip up to Bedford Women’s Prison, just up the road – visiting hours are 10-2, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Now that Ogilvy has lopped $30,000,000 of the Helmsley place, it’s ripe for a low ball offer – say, $85 million? Is any price too dear to maintain contact with Granny?

I am amazed that the government investigators have not announced additional charges against co-conspirators…..I am assuming they are playing the boys off each other for lighter sentences. Bu the old Bitch should be thrown in the tank.

Ruth was involved from the beginning. Her father ran an accounting firm that employed two guys who sold Madoff Ponzi Notes since at least 1962, according to the SEC Injunction. It is entirely possible that Ruth’s father started the Ponzi and handed it off to Ruth and Bernie. The story that just married 22 year old Bernie started a broker dealer with lifeguarding money was always a little thin, like his claim to have been to law school. But Ruth probably dropped out of active management of the Ponzi many years ago, and will probably skate for lack of evidence. Absent cooperation from Bernie, which is less likely now that he is pretty much assured another year or so in the penthouse, it will be pretty tough to convict anyone but Bernie of the Ponzi.
