Condo sale

A unit at 1 Milbank, those brick things that have scarred our landscape since being erected in 1984 on the corner of the Post Road and Milbank, has sold for $2.480, a pretty good price. These units don’t sell nearly as frequently as they are listed, and expire, but so far as I can tell the last one to move and the highest price achieved here, was one that sold in 2005 for $2.2 million. In view of that spotty price history I’m surprised the owner of this one chose to price it at $3.2 million in 2007 but as always, the market always sets the real price, eventually.

I never understood why this complex commanded such high prices. Consider the negatives: Ugly construction, busy interesection, not close enough to walk to train or Greenwich Ave.

Can someone please tell me what is so great about these units?

Whaddaya mean not close enough to walk to train or the Avenue? I would suggest getting a dog, so one’s perception of such distances shrinks!

But I can’t shed any light on the “greatness” of these units. I know someone who bought one . . . it might be the 2002 sale. The big selling point, buy from the original owner, was that the kitchen had never been used.

While stopping at the traffic light on Maple Avenue at Putnam there used to be a nice, if distant, view of the Sound over this land. I seem to recall that the then owner of the land offered to donate it to the town as parkland, but the then town fathers refused to accept it.

As a result this ugly bunker-like building was put up to block the view and rebuke the ungrateful town fathers.

Isn’t that how this blot-on-the-landscape came to be, or am I misremembering?
