And speaking of paralysis

Republican Senator Richard Shelby has blocked 70 nominations to various federal entities in an attempt to preserve his slice of pork. Republicans wondering why the Tea Party started and how the GOP could bring them back under the tent might want to look at this Senator and begin the process of rapprochement by throwing him out.

Not a flake of snow

It’s odd to reflect that a huge snowstorm swept into the mid-Atlantic region yesterday, paralyzing Washington (good!) and Philadelphia (who cares?) with no evidence of that weather up here. Two hundred years ago we’d learn of the storm only weeks later, when letters or travelers arrived.

In a way, it’s not unlike child abduction cases which apparently have not increased in frequency over the past decades but because an abduction in Florida, say, is now national news in minutes, the country’s parents think they’re under siege. Same for lots of modern day afflictions, I suspect, from cancer to Hollywood stars behaving badly.
