Even our cat Henry, who hates snow, made it outside this morning but not Greenwich school kids – classes cancelled. I’m sure the kids don’t care but really – closing schools based on the media’s hysteria rather than looking out the window seems like a silly way to run a railroad.

Where do you live? Brazil? Look out the friggin window. We have a foot here – and its still snowing.
So now I have nothing to do today… I have nothing to do every day!!!
Anyways, try and post something interesting today. Not your usual drivel. I need some entertainment.
You Pal,
Walt
I’ve warned you before about your measurement scale, Walt.
8″ in backcountry and still snowing hard.
~Men can read maps better than women. ‘Cause only the male mind could conceive of one inch equaling a hundred miles.’~
Given that measurement scale, methinks we need to hear a female assessment of how many inches are REALLY involved here..ummmm…regarding snow, of course!!
Give the kids a break, they need a snow day now and then to look forward to. Chris, you’re officially turning into an old curmudgeon like Mr. Wilson from Dennis the Menace!!
(Of course, as a kid you fit the role of Dennis)
You do live in Greenwich, right? There are at least 8 inches, over a nice layer of ice. Plow guy said roads are awful. And it is still coming down.
The decision to cancel school or delay its opening is made by the Superintendent and the school bus company, and is driven (no pun intended) by safety concerns. Nobody wants a bus o’ kids skidding off into some ditch — and all the lawsuits that would surely follow. If the bus company sez road conditions are truly hazardous, school is delayed or canceled. It’s that simple.
Doesn’t mean I can’t complicate it if I want to, though! : )
having actually driven a school bus, i know how dangerous it is to drive on snow-covered roads in the back-country. on many of the hills, there just is not enough of a footprint [contact areas of the six tires] to slow or steer these 20,000 pound vehicles. it’s more like driving a toboggan than anything else i’ve ever done. i proposed, while a driver, that the school board cancel school [or at least bus routes] whenever the police put chains on their vehicles. a police car has about one half the ‘footprint’ of a bus with about one sixth the weight. so, do the math. if the cops can’t steer and stop w/o chains, the buses driving your kids have no chance to do so.
