Where all the children are above average

In the D.C. area they’ve tossed out IQ tests so up to 72% of all children are “gifted and talented”. Going on IQ, I could have been considered gifted and talented, yet never amounted to much, so I’m not saying that these tests are the beginning and end of child evaluations but a 72% ratio would seem to dilute the brand remarkably.

This word “gifted” is bandied about to where its original meaning is utterly destroyed. In some parts of the South, it means the opposite and it’s actually a sort of code for a kid with a problem. Newspeak. They’re “gifted”, so they need, uh, special help to develop their gifts.

And of course, everybody is a star! Everyone’s a winner! You are the universe!

    Dude –
Going by IQ, you may very well be gifted and talented. Based on your writing abilities, you are still a load.
