the canucks of the princess pat can shoot. hats off to them.
Who they gonna shoot at when they’re recalled home? I’m an excellent target shooter myself, but that’s hardly any help to kids putting their lives on the line on the front line.
In fairness, I’m positive that this decision is one made by Canadian politicians and not the Army – thanks to Pal Nancy, I have had the opportunity to meet several Canadian officers and they impressed me hugely. The politicians of that country, however, are as disappointing as our own.
The Canadian Army has done very well in Afghanistan. They’ve done the heavy lifting in Kandahar, a volatile area, and have aggressively engaged the enemy. Contrast that with the Germans, who only want to operate in “safe” areas and won’t leave their bases after dark. They’ll be missed.
I agree.
You know, speaking of Germans, it occurs to me that when Putin decides to take Europe, there is not a single army of merit standing in his way. And If I can figure that out, I imagine it hasn’t escaped his attention either.
I don’t think that this reflects on the Canadian Armed Forces at all, nor even the Canadian political class.
It is merely a rather astute observation that the US can no longer be counted on as an ally, no matter what the relationship has been in the past. After throwing the UK under the bus re the Falklands, not to mention other ‘tells’ too numerous to mention, the Canadians realized that there is no upside to being involved anymore, as loyalty to it’s erstwhile allies is essentially nonexistent in the current US administration.
I think the US dumping England on the Falklands was despicable, but the withdrawal of Europe from the world is, I believe, unrelated. They’ve huddled to their knees, covered their heads with their arms, and await decapitation. We’re just thirty years from that same stance, if we’re lucky.
Putin has some real work to do on the Russian military before he thinks about invading anything bigger than Lichtenstein.

I suspect that Germany’s army is not much more able than Lichtenstein’s. If Putin doesn’t discover this, someone with more energy will.
