Short term thinking and investing

This is pretty much my thinking. I doubt there’s anything to be done about it, but I don’t think it’s good for the country. We all suffer from a remarkable degree of impatience. We live in a world of sound … Continue reading

Okay, this is nasty

73  page police report says Al Gore was whoring. It doesn’t change my opinion of the man, but those who once admired the Nobel Prize winner may have a different reaction.

A send off for Justice John Paul Stevens

After acknowledging Justice Ginsburg’s loss, the court bade farewell to Justice Stevens, and according to this story, reporters and lawyers, men and women alike, wore bow ties in his honor. That’s kind of cool.

This sounds encouraging

Greenwich Time reports on changes school superintendent Sydney Freund has made in his first year. I’ve only heard the man once, but he struck me as a great boon to Greenwich, and I do believe he’ll bring our schools back … Continue reading

Martin Ginsburg, R.I.P.

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Ginsburg’s husband died over the weekend. He seems to have been a remarkable man, who stood by and supported his wife in her own career since 1954. I may now live two doors down from Pal … Continue reading

I understand inflation, but this new number for the GHS auditorium floors me

We’re approaching $30,000,000. The high school itself was built for $20 million in 1971 dollars. I was never much of a musician and so can’t opine on the crappy original auditorium but my brother Anthony was, and is a gifted … Continue reading

Funny: BP’s pension fund doesn’t own any BP shares.

Apparently that’s per pension investing guidelines but as Business Insider notes, “there is no justice”.

Government spending’s effect

I’d be interested to see an analysis of what the late Robert Byrd’s diversion of federal money to West Virginia accomplished. It’s still one of our poorest states, but would it be even poorer without the billions of dollars Byrd … Continue reading

Walter Lippmann – a thinker I’ve been ignorant of

This article by Paul Rahe is very interesting. In 1932, thinking that there was no alternative, Lippmann voted for Franklin Delano Roosevelt. But by 1937, when the shape of the Second New Deal had become clear, he had come to … Continue reading

I don’t wish ill for any American politician, even ex- Klansman Senator Byrd. But at 92, his incapacity or death would put another senate seat in play. Interesting.
