Listening to the news, it seems that not a single airline is providing phone service for their passengers to check flight status. Are there no poorhouses? No Indian call centers? This just can’t be that complicated.

Why on earth would anyone CALL re a status of a flight when smartphones connect to internet websites with real-time info from the airline, or places like FlightAware or FlightStats. Otherwise you are dialing: 1-800-LUDDITE.
I’ll admit that I’d never try it, EOS, but trust me: there are still people who rely on the telephone. I think the airlines’ abandonment of these folks is five years premature.
My 92-year-old mom carries and uses a smartphone. So who are “these people” you think still rely on a telephone? Al Gore?
You type your airline and flt # into google,
eg. AA1395 for American Flt 1395
and you see the mid-air flight status or arrival/departure info instantly.
First of all these airline websites seem to be having trouble accommodating the increased internet traffic. My husband and I keep getting error messages when we login to check our itineraries. In addition, the website (we’re flying Delta) is not providing consistent information about our flight. On one screen our flight is listed as canceled, and on another screen it says that we have been rebooked – on the same canceled flight. My family has encountered numerous flight cancellations and rebookings over the last few days, and we have only gotten accurate information when we finally were able to talk to someone on the phone. It’s been pretty awful.
