Stabbing Bambi

Columbia River Knife

Walt accused me of spending this snowy day trying to stab Bambi to death, which is not true. but I did buy this knife as a Christmas present for John. Supposedly it’s $150 but that’s nonsense: Amazon had it a couple of weeks ago for $49 which seemed like a very fair price. Yeah, it’s made in Taiwan, but designed by an American knife maker and made up of high carbon steel. Good deal, I think. Nice quality, and an elegant tool.

  1. Curious, when Amazon sends that thing in the mail, do you have to be “over 18″ to order and accept the package? And is the knife wrapped eight million ways to Sunday so it doesn’t stab the UPS man?

  2. Don’t know about the 18 year rule, EOS, but yes, it comes in its own box and then a large box. The UPS guy is safe.

Very nice piece! Functional and aesthetically pleasing. At that price, you should have scored two.

  4. I’ll admit that when it arrived and I checked it out, I (briefly) reconsidered giving it to John. But that’s the cool thing about being a parent – it teaches you a love greater than yourself. Still, it’s a really cool knife, and I do wish I’d bought two.

Chris – I have owned or handled several knives made by CRKT (“cricket”) and they are usually pretty good, for Asian made blades. The US designers are sharp and build quality is great for the price. I also own several US made knives from Benchmade and the quality difference is apparent, but the cost is 2 to 3x.

Tell him he shouldn’t use it because he’s going to stab his eye out!
