Funny story, LLS2, but true, as told to me by a former dean at Columbia: A fiftyish guy showed up in his office one day, swimsuit and towel under his arm, and said he’d failed to graduate 30 years before because he couldn’t pass the mandatory swim test and wanted to do the test now. The dean assured him that that requirement had long since been eliminated and that the school would be glad to award him his degree, but the former student was insistent: He’d deliberately learned to swim for precisely this purpose, so the dean escorted the fellow to the pool, introduced him to the swim coach and the test was passed. He graduated with the class of that year which was, I think, 1969.
Why does it have to come down as new regulation…..geez, like schools don’t have enough regs covering their curriculum. If I were a science teacher I would say to the state to butt out of my curriculum given all the other regs you have me choking on….and look at our nation’s science test scores….is this what helps?
i would settle for just plain literacy, which is (sadly) not always the case in the USA
heck at GHS everyone had to know how to swim, which still hasn’t come in handy yet

This is the direction the majority of our Board of Ed certainly would like to go. Seemingly with your full support.
