Excuse me, but aren’t we getting a little carried away?

Malloy shuts down the highways, MetroNorth quit at noon, we were visited by a nice young lad an hour ago urging us to evacuate, but huh? It’s just a storm – we’ve had them before.

4:30pm and all is quiet,- infact the sun is trying to come out! Is this going to be the storm that never was? Another over reaction I think!!

The State Police have closed all roads on Fishers Island starting at 7 tonite.
Total overkill, and total buzzkill as a lot of people had planned Hurricane parties and the only inn on the island will be forced to close.

In 1978 Governor Grasso “closed the state” by proclamation banning use of public roads by all except emergency vehicles. This was in response to large amounts of snow. However, IIRC, the toll booths of that time remained open.

Sound Beach avenue diverting traffic, right in front of the firestation. Just lost power for a few minutes, there is a transformer fire, Ct. Light and Power already on the scene. People behind the firestation still filling sand bags, but they are now out of sand. Was up in Norwalk early afternoon, the drive home on I-95 was light only cars on the highway had out of state plates. Wide open road.

    not just Connecticut….

The Saw Mill River Parkway will be closed in both directions from the New York City border to Grant Street in Pleasantville.

Bronx River Parkway will be closed from the Sprain Brook Parkway split to Virginia Road in Greenburgh.

The Hutchinson River Parkway will be shut down in both directions beginning at the New York City border up to the Cross County Parkway exit.

Part of the ever escalating nanny state culture. No one is presummed to be reponsible for his/her own well being – the government knows better.

Could be a lot of fuss over just another storm. How about putting up odds on a prolonged power outage instead ? Old trees with roots weakened from rain get slammed with high winds knocking them down on some 70 yr old power line. Or maybe we should wager whether 100 yr flood zones will be breached this time. Irene looks mean.

Yeah, when did we start this non-stop storm coverage nonsense. I’m all for updates, but enough with the shots of empty grocery shelves!

After the “Brownie”-Katrina debacle, politicians go by the mantra —”No politician ever lost an election by being over-prepared for a natural disaster.” This part of the country is not used to hurricanes. Every one of these people, Bloomberg, Christie, Cuomo and even Malloy show more leadership capacity than out President.

No – better to devote public resources to some fool driving on the Merritt for no good reason whose car gets flattened by a felled tree.

2dlls: so leave the pancaked jackass in his car till just before Monday AM rush. Have his survivors eat the bill.
