Whacko muslim medical students, bless their hearts, are boycotting classes on evolution and biology because such teaching conflicts with the koran. I’m pretty sure there are fundamentalist Christian schools down south who can accommodate these people and, so long as they confine their practice to each other, I have no problem.

I think it’s a bigger problem with the Christian crowd. This story is pretty bizarre. Islam is actually (historically) notably open to science and scientific innovation as well as explanations. Maybe they’re getting new ideas from the American South?
Islam was very tolerant of science and mathematics for the first few centuries, but it went way downhill from there. Now everything happens because it’s Allah’s will. There’s a reason you don’t see Muslims winning Nobel prizes.
Richard, what about Obama?
Christian fundamentalism/evangelicalism is not only in the south. Goodness, you people on the east end of town ought to know that!
Hopefully, events such as this will raise an eyebrow or two among my fellow liberal-leaning types. There is good reason to be wary of accommodating Islam.
