Sixteen scientists say global warming is a crock. The disdain and contempt heaped on “deniers” by the entire establishment press won’t stop, of course; the CO2 scare will just be allowed to fade away while the centrists dream up another bogeyman with which to scare the populace and grab more power.
Although the number of publicly dissenting scientists is growing, many young scientists furtively say that while they also have serious doubts about the global-warming message, they are afraid to speak up for fear of not being promoted—or worse. They have good reason to worry. In 2003, Dr. Chris de Freitas, the editor of the journal Climate Research, dared to publish a peer-reviewed article with the politically incorrect (but factually correct) conclusion that the recent warming is not unusual in the context of climate changes over the past thousand years. The international warming establishment quickly mounted a determined campaign to have Dr. de Freitas removed from his editorial job and fired from his university position. Fortunately, Dr. de Freitas was able to keep his university job.

The disdain and contempt heaped on “deniers” by the entire establishment press won’t stop, of course; the terrorist scare will just be allowed to fade away while the centrists dream up another bogeyman with which to scare the populace and grab more power.
There … fixed that for ya.
“…the CO2 scare will just be allowed to fade away…”
As did the Population Bomb and Limits of Growth, the two Alarmist Scares that preceded Global Warming. But Al Gore got rich, and the rank and file liberal lemmings got to feel morally superior, so it was all worthwhile.
I am especially worried about the deadly effects of dihydrogen monoxide which almost always is fatal to anyone who inhales it.
I’ll drink to that, AJ
“As did the Population Bomb and Limits of Growth, the two Alarmist Scares …”
Next up, the ice age commeth…
Seriously, I was just enjoying seeing this stupidity start to die, and you mean they’ll have another ^%#$^$#% crusade that we’ll have to undermine with facts and wit, while they rant and rave and claim to be the underdog?
The one thing I expect I will get plenty of schadenfreude from is when the governments go broke (it’s just starting) , I expect a lot of subsidies to all these quango’s, NGO’s and other crapola will have to be cut. please.
removing fossil fuels that were once locked in the earth for consumption is not sustainable. how can one argue against that ?
[ edited for clarity]
Global warming is the biggest hoax ever put over on the American public.
Easy – there’s plenty of it, more discovered every day and still more, far more just waiting. How much energy does a propeller beanie produce, any way?
Fred – A New Ice Age scare would be sufficiently catastrophic, but might be a tad embarrassing, even for liberals, coming on the heels of the Global Warming Collapse. I think geneticaly modified foods has good potential. The science opaque, no one can ever guarantee that there is no risk, and liberal rank and filers can feel morally superior avoiding “poisoners”. Poisoners can be the new Polluters.
Thank God it turned out that DB doesn’t have a closed mind and was able (with Chris’ help) to see that light!
Why let science get in the way of dogma, particularly when it helps reinforce the PC nanny state, and is the favored path to One World Government. You’ve got to feel for poor Al Tantalus Gore, sitting in his hot tub with those carbon credit grapes so close but just out of reach. Don’t worry though, he’s bound to amuse us all with another one of his suck-fits soon.
DollarBill must have overdosed on psilocybin suppositories yet again.
Now you’re censoring my posts, CF, without any explanation? What happened to the rest of the piece …. [edited once again, this time for brevity] What kind of blog is this?
One that likes to get your goat, DB : )
Fred – You were right. It looks like next up is in fact a new Ice Age.
“The supposed ‘consensus’ on man-made global warming is facing an inconvenient challenge after the release of new temperature data showing the planet has not warmed for the past 15 years. The figures suggest that we could even be heading for a mini ice age to rival the 70-year temperature drop that saw frost fairs held on the Thames in the 17th Century.”

Forget global warming: if NASA scientists are right the Thames will be freezing over again. Scientists predict we are at the start of a new mini ice age:

“A recent study of a wide variety of policy options by Yale economist William Nordhaus showed that nearly the highest benefit-to-cost ratio is achieved for a policy that allows 50 more years of economic growth unimpeded by greenhouse gas controls. This would be especially beneficial to the less-developed parts of the world that would like to share some of the same advantages of material well-being, health and life expectancy that the fully developed parts of the world enjoy now. Many other policy responses would have a negative return on investment.”
I’d fire his plagiarizing ass. Philip Morris wrote that fifty years ago.

OG – Thank you for your reaction to the article. I would appreciate it if you would also share your reaction to the Daily Mail article.

Looks like that first link is acting up. Scroll down to the first graph.
Easy to see why the Daily Mail cherry-picked 1997 for their nonsense.

Pulled up, that wasn’t the Daily Mail, jsut as the 16 scientists in friday’s (different) report weren’t the kooks you’d like to believe they were, unless you think a physicist from Princeton is just another hack in the employ of “Big Oil”. (Cornell West certainly brings no honor to Princeton but he’s not a phsicist.)
What do you mean, “that wasn’t the Daily Mail”?
Kooks? Nah, just a motley bunch looking to kick the can down the road.

And after this so-called decade of cooling, didja see the ice boats on Binney? : )

So what else is new?
The guy I excerpted above just punked your *16 scientists*.
“The piece completely misrepresented my work. My work has long taken the view that policies to slow global warming would have net economic benefits, in the trillion of dollars of present value. This is true going back to work in the early 1990s (MIT Press, Yale Press, Science, PNAS, among others). I have advocated a carbon tax for many years as the best way to attack the issue. I can only assume they either completely ignorant of the economics on the issue or are willfully misstating my findings.”

My apologies to Mr. Nordhaus.
