Uh oh, and he’s an Obama supporter

Humiliated Chinee cheese eaters

In fact, he dresses Michelle. But Ralph Lipshitz not only can’t be stopped from gluing his phony corporate polo player on the tits of our Olympic athletes and dressing them in big, poofy French berets, he outsourced the whole mess to China!

(Thanks, EOS)

Your linked article says even 4 years ago the outfits were made in China. One has to wonder if they were ever made in the USA? How can something like this happen? Really? Have we no American pride?

Why do you refer to him as Lipshitz? His family changed their name to Lauren when he was 16.

That is because nobody makes anything is this country anymore!

    Oh, ok MOVIES….We make movies.

Man, I tell you something, if you live in my neighborhood and you’re dressed like that, you’d better be a hotel doorman.

“Always look for the union label” just does not turn a profit maybe. Don’t like the RL design for the athletes or for me. But it is a well run company that produces profits /jobs in the US. Rumor has it that CFO is no fan of the President. Did the Company donate to the cause?

@anonymous 9:15: Ralph is very proud of his roots, where he came from, and his Lipshitz name. He talks about it freely and often. I don’t see the use of it here as derogatory. It’s not something he hides that mentioning it would reveal some deep dark secret.

    • Nothing derogatory intended but it is kind of funny to imagine a “Polo by Ralph Lipshitz” – my guess is that the brand would have had a more difficult time taking off.
It’s those goofy berets made in China that annoy me, not the family name, but I can certainly understand the desire to change one’s surname: ling ago, my family Anglicized de la Fontaine to hide our shameful French ancestry.

GG: Crayola Crayons to Mack Trucks to Jelly Belly to Kohler and in CT alone, Ethan Allen Furniture, Bigelow Tea, and Sweetwater Boatworks. The list is long of Made in the USA – it’s just that we don’t stop to think of what we DO make here other than movies. It’s lousy USA public relations.

Gotta say, if my name were Lipshitz, I’d change it too.

Look at all the actors of a generation gone by who changed their name. That’s how it was done then. Not so much now, actors and designers seem to stay with their god-given name. And how many Jones and Smith and Mason’s were Jonzcowitz, Smulka, or Massini when they came through Ellis Island. Often the change was not of their own liking/doing – it was the Ellis Island officers who demanded the change.

    • My grandfather, movie star, changed his name from Pringle to Gilbert, perhaps anticipating the potato chip.
And in the 30′s, my father had a Wall Street friend who was both openly anti-semitic and fiercely proud of his Celtic ancestry.
“What’s the ‘C’ in your middle name stand for, John?” , he asked one day.
“It used to be ‘Caldwell’” my father replied,”but my parents changed it to Cohen – they were afraid people would think I was Irish”.
      Badabing!

Anon. Thank you, yes, great products all but truly manufacturing in this country has been in trouble for some time. I think we are down to only ONE steel foundry? I know textiles and furniture for the most part are gone gone gone.
