Wasn’t it a mighty storm?

That was something for the past hour (12:45ish start time). Binney Park lost its tennis fences when the wind catcher screens did what their name implies and brought the whole south wall down.

A bright spot – as it was raining cats and dogs my thoughts naturally turned to our president and his dining habits. He wasn’t around but I happened to be right in front of Moe’s Burger Joint on Route One in OG, so I pulled in. I haven’t tried this place before but they make a very fine burger. Just had the burger but they offer milkshakes and that sort of stuff too, which I’ll bet are also good – I’ll go back soon and try one.

Did you tell Moe he didn’t build that burger by himself? Did you tell him to thank Obama for paying for the roads that got you to Moe’s?

  2. Corn in the Cob

Moe’s is really good. Love that place.

  3. dogwalker

Not even a little sprinkle here in Manhattan.

  4. Shoeless

And their sweet potato fries are off the charts.

  5. Anon21

Holy smokes- you should see the radar now and look what’s headed our way from the west.

  6. Cobra

As of 2:42, just south of the Merritt, not a drop.

  7. Libertarian Advocate

Big ass cell moving into West Waziristan right now.

  8. anonymous

Downpour and lots of lighting in Glenville now.

  9. Cos Cobber

Will today’s storms represent a test for CLP…perhaps…we’ll know by tomorrow.

  10. Anon21

3:40 and it looks like the bad stuff is heading south of us

  11. Sound Beacher

Since you liked Moe’s go try his 2nd establishment in town Tomatillo’s, in Heaven’s, gasp, Cos Cob. It’s really good also.

  12. Corn in the Cob

The City is now getting hit (4:00).

  13. dogwalker

There is also a new Tomatillo on Railroad Avenue across from Greenwich railroad station.

6:09pm – Bedford is finally getting hit. We escaped the majority of earlier storm, it hit lower in White Plains, but the booms are pretty low and loud. Cobra, as the crow flies, you live the closest to me. Are you hearing this now too? Or are you still hearing voices? :-)

  15. Cos Cobber

I’ll start eating at Tomatillo once the staff learns to use utensils to make burritos rather than their filthy food glove hands. Too many times I have watched them make burritos by hand with food gloves that have been left on while operating the cash register, cleaning up and opening doors/cabinets/etc. If you watch the people at Chipotle you will see much more discipline to use utensils and avoid touching your grub.

  16. Cobra

Heard a few claps of distant thunder, but now only a slow drizzle, no cloudbursts so far. The voices are now emanating from the gun safe.

    Storm Field –
Stick to the weather and pass on being a food critic, OK. Trust me on this one. You eat road kill, for Pete’s sake, and now you want to be Craig Claiborne or Zagat’s? Give me a frigging break!! You are, however, astute enough to observe when it is raining outside. So you have that going for you, you frigging rocket scientist, you.

How can I put this politely? Hmmmmm……Moe’s BLOWS!!! I HATED IT!! You did a post on burgers about a year ago, and the reader posted about 20 burger joint suggestions, one being Moe’s, so I tried it.
IT WAS NOT A TASTY BURGER!! Pulp Fiction Dude!!! Great Flick!! UMA!!!

Anyhows, the bread, which I consider to be an integral part of the burger experience SUCKED!! The burger was plain, nothing special. It was my fault for listening to that moron Hiram. Never again!!
A Five Guys opened in Stamford, and they are better than Moe’s. But I am still looking for a good burger place. Did you ever go to Marty’s Mug & Munch in Ardsley when it was still around? NOW THAT WAS A TASTY BURGER!!

You know how to flip a burger Dude? Maybe we should open a MM&M type of place around here? I will start interviewing waitress candidates.

    Your Pal,
    Walt

if all you can afford are these fast food type joints, what do you expect to get from staff that are barely paid minimum wages. you know what you get when you pay peanuts, so stop with the moaning. pathetic.

    • Unsanitary food handling techniques are the result of poor training/lax supervision, not the wage paid to a worker. And your attitude: someone who eats at a fast food joint does so because he can’t afford to pay more – is exactly the attitude that has permeated Greenwich these past decades and transformed it into a community of desperately insecure people solely concerned with the opinion of their neighbors. Mega-mansions, Lexus SUVs, trophy wives and the stores on Greenwich Avenue are all the direct result of this shallowness.

  19. Cos Cobber

@Anonymous, are you really as dumb as you sound? Most all the places in town at this price point run a clean shop or a much cleaner shop than Tomatillo using labor on the same wage scale. This is a management issue, not a customer issue.

And who says this is all anyone can afford to eat? And if I ate every meal at the Four Seasons would that somehow make me a better person?

walt; hop up to westport to shake shack. surely you’ve been to the ones in the city. delish. and while you are there, can you order me a SmokeShack, fries, and a root beer float. I’ll meet you at the Darien rest stop on I-95 with cash. About an hour? OK?

    PS:
    here’s their westport menu

    • I’ve heard good things about it, Canivore, but looking at the picture of the line outside, I’ll give it a pass. I hate waiting in lines as much as I do listening or watching commercials, so I just don’t do them. Missed Disney World because of that aversion but I can live with that.

  22. Cos Cobber

Hey Carny, you might have a hard time pulling off at the Darien reststop…its closed for renovations.

CF, that anonymous comment was so insipid, I wonder how that sperm lottery winner manages to get out of bed in the morning.

the nyc shack has a ‘shack cam’ so you can see the line and know when to attack. CC: Good point. I forgot that was was still closed. Milford finally reopened. Took a year.

Chris, everyone should go to Disney at least once. We run every year in the Disney half-marathon in January and take a couple of extra days to enjoy the park. I never tire of it, no matter the lines, but then again, I don’t go at Christmas or Spring Vacation.

Chris–I agree w you re: what Greenwich has become. I grew up there in the 80′s and was looking forward to raising my family there after living in NYC for 15 yrs, but when I got back I barely recognized the place or the people. (except Glenville Pizza, Bestever Cleaners) I ended up buying in Fairfield which reminds me more of the place that I grew up in than the place itself. Recently I drove to Greenwich with my 5 yr old son and when we hit Greenwich Ave he asked me if we were in NYC. I think, for me, I made the right choice. I still miss the “old” Greenwich that I knew and loved.

  25. Brown Eyed Girl

In all of my many visits to the Cos Cob Tomatillo, the food preparer has not ever touched the cash register. There is another worker for that function. My family used to be huge fans of Chipotle, but we all prefer Tomatillo now because the food is less greasy and not as drippy.

tomatillo is watered down mex food for white people.

try kiosko or los gemelos in port chester. awesome food.

Burger Bar and Beach Burger in Norwalk are both light years ahead of anything in Greenwich as far as burgers go. Both can get pricey, but not too bad if you avoid ordering the “Kobe” at burger bar. “Kobe” my ass! They charge more for it because Kobe Bryant put a booger in it is my guess.
