Porricelli’s in Old Greenwich is going. This was pretty-much announced a month ago and here at FWIW, no one seemed prepared to mourn. On the other hand, I’m not sure Kings will do anything for Old Greenwich except attract still more SUV Mommies to our section of town:
It carries organic and locally grown produce and offers hand-selected cheeses from more than 20 countries.
“Hand selected” cheese? How do other stores do it, truffle pigs? I’m not impressed.

I’m hoping the new owners will introduce innovative service concepts like being open past 7pm–I can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked or driven past this place on my way home from the train station when it was closed
I hear they’ll be stocking fresh dog meat in the hopes of attracting a presidential visit but that’s just rumor.
Poricelli’s, for lack of a better term, was a dump. King’s is better than anything in the area and less pretentious than the whole foods, although the prices are high..
It’s amazing how people put up with these shabby NYC style groceries for so long. Kings is a big step up, I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised.
When we moved here in 1994, we and lots of others did all our shopping at Food Mart, as the choices for groceries on this side of town were Food Mart or A&P. The store used to be crowded, unlike today when everyone in there is picking up just a couple of items.
Times changed and Food Mart didn’t. I’m surprised they held on this long after Shop Rite (and Fairway) opened and they lost their customers.
Would rather they sold to Trader Joe’s though, Darien is a hike.
rdw,
i think they own the building and that changes the math a whole lot!
I’m looking forward to McDonalds moving in to the new space near Feinsods….it’s going to be great!
What’s up with that space, anyway? It appears that construction has stopped. Are they waiting for a tenant before proceeding or has the YMCA taken over the project?
Chase Bank needs a bigger branch in OG it looks tiny compared to Cuz Cob branch
Bring back Gran Central, originally a First National back in the fifties.
Gran Central was a dreadful store, but do you remember Gristedes across the street? My mother walk us in, hand the grocery a list, perhaps amend it as he might suggest and a few hours later a green Chevy Varry-All would deliver
A personal Pea Pod, without the Internet.
