I went in the store over the weekend. Seems like Food Mart with fresh paint, new registers, and just a couple of new items. Must say the strawberry rhubarb pie I bought was good.
But organic peas for $3.99 pound vs. $2.79 for those that are laced with insecticide and brought foaming from the garden? I’ll take mine poisoned, thank you, and they can keep their organic chicken parts, $12 per pound. Otherwise, same junk as ShopeRite, without the sales (Thomas’s English Muffins $3.99 vs. $1.99, for instance).
On Palmer Hill Road heading east near Havemeyer Lane is a stone sign, actually a milestone, which reads “Fairfeild”. What was the stone mason thinking during the hours spent cutting those letters?
Balzac – That was a bicentennial project I remember as a kid, there’s a sign over at the top of Greenwich Avenue, one next to the Riverside Towing and so on. That’s when the post road ran down Palmer Hill Road. Apparently, our forefathers didn;t believe in the “i before e” rule because supposedly that is how it was spelled back then
There’s a sign at Doral Arrowwood’s Purchase tennis courts that is a dedication to Arthur Ashe. It used to read that it was dedicated to Arthur Ashe, a national treasurer, instead of that he was a national treasure. You can still see where they had to chip off the final r.
I had a sandwich made to order on Sunday & took it to Binney Park for lunch. When I opened it up, the lettuce had brown edges & some slimy decay. For day 3, that doesn’t bode we’ll for the future. I also miss my Boars Head deli products.
Where’s Hiram when Kings needs him?

Ah, but that was organic lettuce – 3X the price, zero shelf life, but didn’t you feel righteous spending so much for so little? I thought you would.
