For Hartford Democrats, Adam Lanza still breathes

Long time Second Amendment foe state  Senator Martin Looney [ I didn't say it, his parents did - Ed] is rushing a gun control bill through the legislature using the “emergency certification” procedure to shut off debate.

Ballotpedia describes the legislative process thus:

Before most bills are considered in either the House or Senate, they must first go through the committee system. The primary exception to this rule is the emergency certification bill, or “e-cert,” which can be passed on the floor without going through committee first. The e-cert is generally reserved for use during times of crisis, such as natural disasters or when deadlines are approaching too quickly to delay action

The only emergency here is the fear that emotions may cool and reason return before the Democrats pass their bill. Gun owner or not, real democrats might be troubled by this evasion of the legislative process. Democrats with a capital “D”, however won’t care a whit.

Looney, by the way, who has also introduced a bill requiring that public schools teach “labor history” (gee, taught from what viewpoint?), has included in the grab bag of anti-gun laws he’s trying to pass a provision to register every buyer of ammunition, require background checks to do same and ban internet sales, all of which are aimed solely at target and recreational shooters and have absolutely no connection with preventing another Adam Lanza, the ostensible reason for this gun confiscation offensive.

  1. I’d be willing to pay some high school or college techie to create an algorithm and app that could count how many times the word gun was used in the media BEFORE Newtown and compare it to NOW. I’d also like it to count the number of times the word Newtown is used. It’s so over-the-top crazy I am waiting for someone to ban Fig Newton cookies because it’s spelled close enough to Newtown that kids eating the cookies will be fearful of being shot. It’s gun this. Gun that. Newtown this. Newtown that. It’s gotta stop.

Fox Lane Middle school was evacuated last week because someone wrote “bomb” on the bathroom wall. The kid probably meant his date was “da bomb” or that he ‘got bombed’ but anyway the school was evacuated. Okay, evacuate, I get that. Err on the safe side. BUT, the problem is that the local paper called it a Newtown scare. Really? The word bomb is NOTHING like a gunman breaking into the school. I fear the entire dialogue of this nation has changed from before Newtown and After Newtown. It drives me crazy.

    End of rant.

Something I posted on Greenwich Ptxh and several other communities’ Patches:

To Gov. Malloy, Senator Looney and all state senators and representatives:

Why are you rushing through the most important legislation in a generation?

Why combine a wide range of complex issues into a single giant omnibus bill?

Why rush to pass legislation before the official report on the Sandy Hook massacre has been completed and made public?

WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO HIDE FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC?

Emergency Certification* on firearms-related bills is an egregious abuse of our legislative process. I oppose any bill that comes to the House or Senate via Emergency Certification.

The use of an omnibus bill is a blatant attempt to ram a single bill down the throats of both legislators and voters, irrespective of the merits of its individual parts.

The people of Connecticut deserve fair and open hearings on specific firearms bills that are raisedonly by a committee and standard processes.

I am one of 500,000+ gun owners in the State of Connecticut and I am now a single-issue voter. We are all watching what you and your colleagues say, do and vote.

The people of Connecticut do not need additional gun laws, especially those that have been ineffectual in the past. Especially those that have failed to stop rampage killers in jurisdictions where they are currently the law.

Enforce the current laws, empower police to get illegal guns out of circulation and lengthen prison sentences for criminals that conduct violent acts.

Have you noted the plunge in Andrew Cuomo’s approval ratings since the “SAFE” Act was rammed through in New York? Voters are watching you just as closely.

Protect our children. Take your time. Seek a broad range of opinions. Make Connecticut a thought leader on 21st century gun violence mitigation and reject the ineffectual ideas hatched in the 1980s.

    Thank you.

A Concerned Parent and Gun Owner

Press release from Senator Looney indicating the use of emergency certification will be sought:

    * From Wikipedia entry on the Connecticut General Assembly:

    Committee system

The General Assembly has 27 committees, all of which are joint committees; that is, their membership includes House and Senate members alike. Several committees have subcommittees, each with their own chair and special focus.

Before most bills are considered in either the House or Senate, they must first go through the committee system. The primary exception to this rule is the emergency certification bill, or “e-cert,” which can be passed on the floor without going through committee first. The e-cert is generally reserved for use during times of crisis, such as natural disasters or when deadlines are approaching too quickly to delay acting.

Looney is outdoing himself as a Useful Idiot for the Obama Administration, and he doesn’t even know it. Looney has turned himself into a lightning rod of sorts, a powerful distraction from other evils occurring.

Holder and Obama continue on their merry way justifying the extrajudicial killing of Americans who have no intent of attacking the US. In the meantime, they’ve perfected the process, technology, repetition, and moral novocaine of drone killings including the collateral damage of noncombatant women and children. Just like the Nazis had the Spanish Civil War as a tuneup for their blitzkrieg, Obama and Holder have had Afghanistan and Iraq – there’s a reason they didn’t withdraw when they said they would. Now they can execute their drone strikes not just anywhere in the world but everywhere in the world. Now they can execute their drone strikes not just on anyone in the world, but on everyone in the world, including Americans – without due process. Evil people, evil times.
