“Skakel’s Chance at Freedom Could Hinge on April Trial”
Next week: sun will rise in east!

This case has always intrigued me. I never thought Michael Skakel killed Martha – I thought brother Thomas was guilty. Michael’s original story made the most sense to me – that he was watching Martha from outside her window and playing with himself. The matter that he “confessed” to the murder while at Elan was, in my opinion, some very odd way of getting attention from his peers. Bragging rights, in some perverted way. He wouldn’t be the first to confess to something he didn’t do to elevate his stature. Add Mickey “can’t defend himself against tax evasion” Sherman and you have the trifecta for wrongful conviction. Personally, I hope he gets out. He’s served enough time. It serves no purpose for Michael to stay incarcerated for something that happened decades ago.
I would certainly disagree with you if I were the poor girl’s parent, but I’m not, and nothing I read about the trial (obviously not at all the same as participating as a juror) convinced me that they got the right Skakle brother beyond all reasonable doubt. It almost seemed as though the jurors and the prosecution figured that one of the two did it and since Michael was the one they had, why not keep him?
It’s also true that had he been tried and convicted as a juvenile way back then he’d have been released from jail after far less time than he’s already served now.
This is going to sound harsh, but I think Mrs. Moxely didn’t care which Skakel she got – she wanted someone in jail, even if the one they convicted is innocent. That seemed irrelevant to her. I was not a fan of how she never was willing to listen to any other side. She was sure she was right, that Michael did it. Perhaps it was her only way to not feel guilty about Michael going to jail – by convincing herself that Michael did it. Otherwise, she’d never sleep, worried that the wrong man was in jail.
By the way, where is Thomas today?
Only his banker knows how many appeals he gets
Speaking of which, who IS Michael’s banker and how is he getting $? I remember a couple of years ago his cousin Robert The Snake Kennedy Jr. tried to raise money and awareness. Half-heartedly, to get press, not for Michael, for for himself, and when no one paid attention, he crawled back under a rock.
Let me guess, the photo, Ben Hecht’s “The Front Page”? Did they get the right Skakel brother? There’s a third brother that never came up as a suspect and then the were those two black guys who were supposedly in the neighborhood that were supposedly going to “get them a woman, caveman style”. And of course the Brusnwick tutor, who along with the black guys, seems to have been unlikely. It was a weird trial: to essentially convict someone with no evidence, and it seemed to me that all they proved was what everybody already knew, that Michael Skakel was a mixed up kid and a very likely, amongst others, suspect. If it wasn’t for such negligent police work in the begining they may have caught a killer, but case closed, next.
