I’m not a Dr but true ADD kids have major behavioral problems, that’s a hallmark symptom. If your daughter does not have any, that’s a good sign.

I’m not in Greenwich.

My child doesnt have behaviorial problems.
She’s a very happy child.

Her reading comprehension/anxiety are all about reading books. Yup, thats it. A little bit of language processing too.

They will label her ADD, so that she can get services in school. I am not thinking of medication. I’ve talked to many parents who do medicate their child for ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia. When services fail your child in school…what do you do?

I guess I have ADD too. My husband tells me not to spend too much money. I never listen. I guess I have ADD. Lol

It can be genetic? Of course it can (all shake theirs heads in agreement); it’s all your fault. Stop listening to this drivel, quit your part time job at the school, hire a lawyer, and learn to get in people’s faces. Is that the easy path? No, but if you care about your child’s future as an individual, it’s the only one to choose.

Chris, Somewhere along the line, different became bad. We were always The Different Family, still are today, and that’s never easy living in a town where everyone strives to be the same (whether Bedford or Greenwich). I guess what parents have to decide nowadays is “Is my kid just different or does he/she really have some mental inability to learn that requires remediation.” And if it’s just that the child is different, well then, I say congratulations! I don’t mean to diminish the anguish parents face today, especially when schools are diagnosing left and right, but there IS a line drawn in the sand that parents have to deal with. This doctor said it best, in his new book Saving Normal:

If the DSM grows by the pound with every revision, then we can only assume that the psycho profession sees us as increasingly deviant. Every entry in their sacred book is essentially a deviancy. Perhaps it’s time for them, and their fellow wackos in the NEA, to not help us out so much.
