Well, it was a round-about way of getting there, but Washington has achieved its goal

Housing affordability index at highest level since 1971. This is what politicians of all stripes, from George Bush to Ted Kennedy to Dodd/Franks all said they wanted to achieve. They didn’t tell us they’d do it by wrecking the world’s financial system but hey – omelets and all that, you know.

    Housing might be affordable but noone has any money to pay for it.

    I disagree, Phil. There are people who can afford houses – I’m working with some right now and, talking to other agents, they are too. The real trouble has been, and remains, uncertainty. Job insecurity doesn’t help but the real killer right now is the fear that prices are going to continue to drop, a lot, and few buyers want to participate in that slide. So they wait, and who can blame them?
