What a wuss – Jim Himes a no-show at health care town hall meeting

Yeah, but at least I never voted for Jim Himes!

Yeah, but at least I never voted for Jim Himes!

So after receiving this invitation from the Himes camp today:

chris –

I wanted to send you an urgent invitation to an important town hall with Rep. Jim Himes this evening, Thursday, August 6th. He’ll be talking to constituents and gathering feedback — this is an ideal opportunity to make sure your support for health insurance reform is seen and heard at exactly the right time.

Our congressional representatives are back home this month, and they’re facing more and more pressure from special interests on health insurance reform. It’s critical that we get out there and show them where we stand.

I went over to see for myself what these special interests looked like. Not a Brooks Brothers suit in sight, unless you count all the Himes staffers, and they spent all their time explaining to an increasingly irritated crowd of older (35-70, I’d guess) constituents that no, the Congressman wasn’t here, that if he did show up he was planning to talk about the FAA and wasn’t going to take questions from anyone. Uh huh.

Now it’s always possible that Himes, as his staff said, was planning to speak about the FAA – nothing better suited for a talk at the Senior Center than FAA matters – and that his crew got a little too enthusiastic urging supporters to show up and drown out the special interest insurance company flacks (they didn’t show up either). But if the man were truly our representative and came across a crowd of a hundred-and-fifty  or so people all of whom wanted to talk about ObamaCare and none of them there to discuss airplanes, wouldn’t you think he’d change his plans and address their concerns?

Himes changed his plans alright, as well as his destination. I don’t know where he is but my guess is he headed back to Washington where he and Harry Reid can cuddle and whisper soothing sounds to each other about those ungrateful, nasty voters who don’t appreciate what the Democrats have in store for them. They can rail all they like but I wonder if they realize there’s a grass roots rebellion out here beyond Washington. An awful lot of people seem to have finally grown fed up with Washington spending, oppression and hypocrisy and all the blather about astro-turf manufactured opposition won’t put that rebellion down.

Darn – I’m going to have to turn myself in to the White House guard for this post. I’ll go do that now.

CF, gutless Jimmy aside, question for you:
If you report yourself to flag@whitehouse.gov for spreading “disinformation” about the FAA, are you violating the Privacy Act of 1974?

According to the Department of Justice, “the purpose of the Privacy Act is to balance the government’s need to maintain information about individuals with the rights of individuals to be protected against unwarranted invasions of their privacy stemming from federal agencies’ collection, maintenance, use, and disclosure of personal information about them.”

Further, anything is considered a “personal record” if it identifies an individual (an e-mail address would qualify), and “federal agency” specifically includes “the Executive Office of the President.”

do you double report yourself? can the White House guard handle that? so many questions.

    this is so complicated.

My best friend is Russian. She knows all about that kind of stuff. Government monitoring procedures, excellence in health care et cetera. I’ll email her and ask her how they can change policy quickly to make it legal so Chris doesn’t have to worry. I’ll also ask her whether anyone ever survived complaining about health care in Moscow.
I do know, NO ONE ever complains about health care in Cuba!!

We can still call the pussy and tell him what we think. With an 866 area code we can use a pay phone so they can’t flag us for re-education.

  5. Stuck in traffic

I received an email from Jennifer Just, the Connecticut State Director of “Organizing for America” with the President’s red, white and blue “O” logo, and a link to the flyer I was supposed to print out and distribute: http://bit.ly/Himes_TH
I went down to Stamford after work and waited in the lobby of the Senior Center. I was told that the discussion was instead about the FAA and that he may answer a question or two about healthcare. I left and got stuck in traffic on the way home. Thanks for wasting my time. I also notice that the link to the invitation now dead: http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/gpfmhw

Congressman Himes did show up (around 6:15) and they did talk about the whole FAA noise thing for over an hour. Close to ten FAA officials and this odd group “noisewatch” or some such. AFTER all of that The Congressman took questions from us for almost 50 minutes. Though Himes and I agree on almost nothing when it comes to “Healthcare reform” (and I do mean nothing) he did the right thing by taking the time to talk with us.

Dont know why or how the incorrect discussion topic got out, but Himes did change his plans and address my concerns. Not going to vote for him.

Several of us have called his office trying to get dates and times and places where he will be meeting with constituents….his staffers have been flat out lying saying no schedule has been set yet and asking us to give our address so they can mail us info or asking us to sign up for his email newsletter. Yesterday 8/6 Mr. Himes had an online discussion thru the Danbury News-Times…it was pathetic…no hard questions…no follow-up to wrong answers…Mr. Himes thinks the VA Hospital system is a model of efficiency that would be great for the whole country!?!? And then of course the Stamford meeting he was a no show at…anyway his staffers did not mention either of these and tried to give the impression he wasn’t even back from DC yet. HIMES IS HIDING and frankly based on how he is a ruber stamp Dem for Pelosi I guess I can see why!

Chris, again you show your inability to tell the truth about Jim Himes.

Congressman Himes did show up, at 6:15, and stayed for an hour after the scheduled discussion to take constituents questions on healthcare.

    From businessinsider.com:
“There was a telling incident at a town hall held by Representative Gene Green, D-Tex. An activist turned to his fellow attendees and asked if they “oppose any form of socialized or government-run health care.” Nearly all did. Then Representative Green asked how many of those present were on Medicare. Almost half raised their hands…”

No need to rent “Idiocracy” again, is there?

Is there any website or listing of future meetings with Jim Himes? I have been trying to find out when he will be speaking to constituents and would like to be present. Any help for a Greenwich resident would be appreciated!

thought you might be interested that Obama’s favorite goon squad had put out requests for their followers to show up at Hines’ meeting to shout down opponents of Obamacare.

I just found out that a Healthcare Town hall is planned on September 2 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Norwalk Hospital auditorium 34 Maple St. This is not listed on his website but if you google: August 2009 Healthcare townhalls Connecticut -this shows up. http://www.yourct.com/new/2009/…/town-hall-forum-on-healthcare/ I will call Jim Himes office on Monday and confirm.

This is the only townhall listed for Connecticut. Also Lieberman is out of town and is only planning on dropping by informally at Diners No Townhalls.

Thanks for the information. I had called Himes’s office twice and asked for information and they kept putting me off by saying that he was still looking for a venue. I will plan to be there on the 2nd!
