Quelle surprise: Chinese “organic” food is contaminated

You call him Fido, we call him organic!

I try to avoid buying anything from China on general principle but I certainly wouldn’t buy their food.

[S]erious questions about certification in China have been raised by the United States Agriculture Department. The agency, which uses private groups to conduct most inspections, has banned a leading American inspector from operating in China because of a conflict of interest that strikes at the heart of the organics’ guarantee. The federal agency also plans to send an audit team to China this year to broadly review the certification process.

I overwhelmed with shock! Actually, I WAS overwhelmed with shock when a year or so ago I noticed that the still-pricey store brand of “organic” spinach at Whole Foods was from China. Read those labels!

my father-in-law works for very large food distributor in NY (they have a contract with the schools). Every week he has new stories for me on the Chinese food export machine- most would be shocked at how the Chinese have come to dominate so many foodstuff markets (at least in our tri-state area). And the amount of fraud currently taking place is exceptionally high. Lastly- the price differentials are astounding, further tempting the diner owner/restauranteurs to cheat and go along with the scams…very very sad-
signed- QUITE THE LIBERAL (this means self policing is crapola) when it comes to policing the food industry- however, we also need to police the inspectors….

you are safe- absolutely no evidence of this. It is more in the order of tilapia from China being represented as tilapia from Ecuador…complete with bogus stamps, etc…

What is so wrong with eating dog? They eat horses, don’t they? And that, I have a problem with.
