I’ve no dog in this fight, but I have wondered about it

Israelis split on paying Orthodox males to do no work. When the policy was established, there were 400 students of the Torah. Now there are 60,000. In a small country, that’s a lot.

But why do we need such a commission at all?

Your tax dollars at work

Malloy names new head (so-to-speak) to Agricultural Commission.

Reviczky has advocated streamlining laws to allow farmers to sell pickles, salsa and other products at local farm stands and markets.

Malloy said he does not have any plans to merge the department of agriculture with another state department.

I guarantee you we’re spending at least a million bucks on this commission per year, what with a genuine Commissioner, staff and all that, but I could draft a bill allowing farmers to sell pickles in five minutes and I wouldn’t charge a nickel.

1990 prices for homes?

Adjusted for inflation, I presume.

UPDATE: Readers alert me that this charts shows price increases, not actual price.

UPDATE II: Here’s someone who’s as alarmed as I am by this chart. As he points out, this time, there’s no built-up equity to shield owners from the decline.
