Canadian pipeline reopened

U. S. reverses ruling. I love our environment – really – I hike, fish and live here. But we need energy to survive, so this is good news. By the way, did you hear that the German e coli massacre has been traced to German organic bean sprouts? I’ll go dig up the story (here you go) but Jeeze, stay away from those organic nuts, eh? (Nadal beat Federher at the French Open, by the way,and that Giant’s pistol-packer just left jail. So much for our radio news).

Okay, I can’t stand the man, but he does put on some great musicians

I detest Garrison Keillor, and pretty much quit listening to him ( 2005?) after a Christmas Eve broadcast when he compared U.S. Marines to Harod’s slaughter of the innocents, but lo and behold, he had Jimmy Dale Gilmore on the air today.  If there’s a better musician out there, I haven’t heard him. Caught him at The Tarrytown Music Hall last (?) year – amazing show. Had Keillor been there, I’d have drowned him in the Hudson but heck …

I missed this Sarah Palin story earlier this week

Ms. Palin was savaged by the press for getting the Paul Revere story wrong.  She said that Revere warned the British and wasn’t she the idiot? But it turns out, she was right and the media (including New York Magazine) were dead wrong. Retractions? Don’t hold your breath – it’s all about casting someone’s image and has nothing to do with the truth. Do you remember Gerald Ford, star collegiate athlete, being depicted as a clumsy oaf? Now you’ve got it.

UPDATE: If anyone ever updates “Profiles in Courage”,  I hope they devote  a chapter to President Ford. He came home from church one Sunday and pardoned Richard Nixon. I hated Nixon. I’d guess most of the country hated the man too, and Ford had to know that he was ruining his chances of being re-elected, but he did it anyway, to get Watergate behind us. And it worked but indeed, Ford paid the price. A hell of a man.

Greenwich’s James Glover goes down

A Greenwich Capital guy. I used to be embarrassed to admit I was a lawyer, and switching to real estate hardly improved my image but really, is there no shame among you financial guys? Glover must have been making millions yet he couldn’t resist stealing an extra half million from his co-workers. Good gravy.

Mortgage deduction on the chopping block?

So it seems. I’ve never understood why home owners were subsidized at the expense of renters so I have no problem with correcting this fluke of our tax code. I do wish it was part of a comprehensive reformation of the entire system, though. Piece meal hacking does no good.
