These are not serious people running our country.

Ronald Reagan agreed to $1 in tax increases in exchange for $3 of future spending cuts from the Democratic Congress. Three decades after he made that deal, we are still waiting for those spending cuts to materialize.
As George Santayana said, those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
And of course John Boehner is no Ronald Reagan…
If John Boehner had studied the history of Ronald Reagan he would have known that the foundational principle of Reagan’s last tax bill was to tax all personal income at the same rate. Boehner and the current crop of Republican morons should have stuck to that principle because it accomplishes the twin goals of getting lots of revenue from the rich while keeping tax rates relatively low. Simpson-Bowles endorsed this principle and called for a 24% tax rate. Boehner committed political malpractice by not endorsing and passing Simpson-Bowles the day after the election.
A buyer of mine is a financial planner. He said today that if these politicians were in the private sector, all would have been fired some time ago.
