Connecticut writ large

Bi-partisan task force says New York’s a disaster waiting to happen. And it won’t be a long wait. According to the report, one of the most troubling areas for concern is the state’s Medicaid budget, “which is larger than those of Florida, Pennsylvania and Texas combined.” [emphasis added]. The report said that while the Cuomo administration had put in place a cap on annual increases in health care spending, it was not certain the measure would drive down costs over the long run.

Governor Cuomo has taken this issue head on by requesting $30 billion+ from the US taxpayer for Sandy relief. Items include a new Tappan Zee Bridge, funding the rebuilding of the MTA infrastructure and on and on it goes. No effort to prioritize spending, rather use a disaster to beggar thy neighbor. Remember his father Mario, when Governor of the Empire State, sold the Attica state prison to itself to raise money. The apple does not fall far from the tree apparently. I would suppose Connecticut could use a good disaster to fix the state finances as well.

I’m waiting to see what the bi-sexual task force says.

  3. The Medicaid spending went insane for two reasons. The Feds picked up half the tab, so adding goodies to the program and easing eligibility rules was cheap and the health care unions liked it.

About 20% of the state’s population is eligible for Medicaid, but I’m not worried because I’m sure Obamacare will fix everything.

CT has recovered only 1/4 of the jobs lost since the start of the recession vs a 50% recovery rate for the nation.

FF, care to illuminate our dull minds? Why arent the job makers making jobs here?
