I was homebound today doing paper work and had the TV on in the background. A Rita Hayworth movie and later one with Ginger Rogers. Then look at Beyoncé.

I remember when this dapper couple had a $100k champagne fountain for an Obama fundraiser. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2205541/280-000-champagne-tower-Obama-fundraiser-Jay-Z-Beyonce-Manhattan-night-club.html

Probably not many thirsty Cubans or Ugandans get to sip that brand.

Saw a nice tribute to Billie Holiday. As Red Smith said of Joe DiMag at retirement: “I told myself not to worry, some day there would be another DiMaggio”. I have the same wish for another Billie Holiday, a class act like DiMaggio, unlike the crude Beyonce.

    • I heard of a priest who, speaking at a man’s memorial service this weekend, noted that the deceased had met both Babe Ruth and the Pope. “I told him I was far more impressed by his meeting with Babe Ruth than the Pope”, the priest recounted. “because there have been lots of popes, but there will never be another Babe Ruth”.

    • These days, actual talent will only get one so far; to achieve celebrity status (as if that’s really a good thing), one must have a gimmick (“Lady” Gaga), or a succession of gimmicks (“Madonna” Ciccone), or just periodically say incredibly stupid and “politically correct” (but I’m being redundant, aren’t I?) things ([fill in name of generic Hollywood type or popular “musician”]).
