Brave New World

A friend of mine emailed me last night to beg off a hunting trip for the next few weeks because he’s been sick, and needs to return to work and get more comfortably solvent. I emailed back, “since we’re armed, why not just rob a bank?”, then paused as I was pressing “send” to wonder what the NSA was going to think of that sentiment. I sent it anyway, and I don’t really expect a SWAT team to show up at my door, but it’s creepy to know that our government is sweeping up every email, every phone call we make and storing them for possible future use. I don’t like it.

I know a couple of people who fled communist East Germany and Poland as twenty-year-olds, and they tell me that the greatest thing they found here in America was the freedom to criticize the government, politicians, even the local grocery store, without fear that someone would overhear and report them to the security forces. We are growing closer to their former reality, every day.

We’ve heard Obama “joke” about siccing the IRS on his enemies, then witnessed the exposure of a systemic attack on conservative groups by the IRS. Just last week, Dr. Benjamin Carson, a prominent black critic of ObamaKare, revealed that the IRS showed up in his office, for the first time in his entire professional career, after he’d   spoken out against the plantation owner at the annual National Prayer Breakfast:

“I had my first encounter with the IRS this year, unsurprisingly after the prayer breakfast,” Carson told an audience that at the annual BusinessCouncil of Alabama Chairman’s Dinner, according to a report from Cliff Sims of the Montgomery, Ala.-based Yellowhammer News.

Carson’s February speech February made him a conservative darling for criticizing President Barack Obama’s2010 health-care reform law, while Obama was sitting just a few feet away.

Much as they may delight in the harassment of a black who’s forgotten his place, Dollar Bill and his silent pals might try to remember Martin Niemöller: “First they came for the communist, but I did not speak out because I was not a communist….”

Since 1980, I’ve been friends with a couple who escaped the Soviet Union. Unfortunately, the wife succumbed to cancer a few years ago.

I only saw her cry once during her battle. We were discussing freedom, and what it was like to live in her native land versus the U.S. She got tears in her eyes, then said, “You and Bonnie (mutual friend) will never know what it is like to live without freedom. You cannot imagine it.”

She and her husband came to a land where they didn’t know the language or the culture so that their children could have a decent life and prosper. I hope like hell that future generations won’t have to leave HERE to know what freedom is like….

    Dude –
What is going on with our loss of free speech is STAGGERING. And the NSA reading our emails and invading our privacy is seen as no big deal by many, and not even being covered by the MSM. IT’S WORSE THAN WATERGATE BY FAR!!

If the progressive Libtards have their way, I think you and I, as straight white males, will be down to using the letters P and Q. EVERYTHING ELSE WILL BE DEEMED OFFENSIVE!! You are a straight white male, right? NTTAWWT.

They have a problem with EVERYTHING!! Retards, midgets, homo, what is wrong with that? Why is Swede and Brit ok, but they are bothered by Jap? I don’t get it.

Why don’t they worry about important stuff, like dead babies? Did someone say dead babies?

If a tree falls on a baby in the forest, and no one is around to hear it, is it still hilarious?

What is better than a dead baby? The revoked child-support.

    Your Pal,

“The Nixon Recession Caper” happens in a Fairfield County, CT town – perhaps an amalgamation of Greenwich, New Canaan, and Westport.

The Nixon Recession Caper involves four couples impacted by the Nixon Recession. They belong to an exclusive country club. One member decides that the only solution is to rob a bank. Can he convince three other club members to join his gang? Will the wives find out? What happens then? What happens when the banker calls on a club member?

oops sorry for the amazon spam.

    • That’s not spam – I link to Amazon all the time and in fact did so in the mention of “The World Without Us” earlier this morning. I like Amazon links because if the book interests me, I can just click away, read a full description, reviews and, if I decide to do so, buy it via one-click.
So fire away – it’s useful.

Actually the situation here has the potential to end up being worse than in the USSR, at least in the 1980s. In the mid-80s I had a government translator/minder in Moscow. We were walking down the street near the Kremlin one day when a car drew up on the other side of the road and a plump guy got out. “Look” my translator said “There Gus Hall (then Chairman of the Communist Party USA)..I’ve translated for him a couple of times.” He paused and added “You know why we hate westerners like that? Because they really believe in all this shit.”

At least we can rest easy that the Obama administration is keeping critical services going and maintaining our safety during these perilous times:

It looks like everyone is about to have a problem with the IRS:

‘Obamacare Fines to be Seized From Bank Accounts?’

‘Man who attempted to sign up claims he was threatened with drivers license being revoked, federal tax lien on home’

“A man who attempted to sign up for Obamacare online was told that a fine of over $4,000 dollars a year for refusing to take out mandatory health insurance could be taken directly from his bank account, and that his drivers license would be suspended and a federal tax lien placed against his home, according to an entry on the Facebook page.

If true, the implementation of Obamacare is going to be a whole lot more draconian than Americans have been led to believe.

    Will Sheehan claims that when he tried to sign up for Obamacare and then register to opt out, he received an ominous warning. Sheehan’s full Facebook post reads;

“I actually made it through this morning at 8:00 A.M. I have a preexisting condition (Type 1 Diabetes) and my income base was 45K-55K annually I chose tier 2 “Silver Plan” and my monthly premiums came out to $597.00 with $13,988 yearly deductible!!! There is NO POSSIBLE way that I can afford this so I “opt-out” and chose to continue along with no insurance.

I received an email tonight at 5:00 P.M. informing me that my fine would be $4,037 and could be attached to my yearly income tax return. Then you make it to the “REPERCUSSIONS PORTION” for “non-payment” of yearly fine. First, your drivers license will be suspended until paid, and if you go 24 consecutive months with “Non-Payment” and you happen to be a home owner, you will have a federal tax lien placed on your home. You can agree to give your bank information so that they can easy “Automatically withdraw” your “penalties” weekly, bi-weekly or monthly! This by no means is “Free” or even “Affordable.”

Sheehan went on to point out that the site makes you input all your personal information before giving you an indication of the costs, meaning a database of the “uninsured” is being built. He added that he could not afford to pay the premium so would have to break the law and pay the fine, leaving him with no health care coverage. …”

Unlike Bill Clinton who felt your pain, Obama wants you to feel his. He’s like a terrible little shit, throwing a tantrum. If he can’t get his way he wants the public to suffer. I’ll bet he pulled the wings off flies when he was a kid: he’s certainly proving himself to be the type.

‘Obama Administration Decided to Block Access to Memorials’

“The Obama Administration has decided to block access to public memorials on the National Mall as a result of the government shutdown. Like its decision to end White House tours when the sequester cuts took effect, there is no rational reason for this. The Park Police, nominally in charge of monitoring these spaces, isn’t even effected by the shutdown. Shutting off access to these sites is gratuitous and petulant.

On Monday, the first day of the government shutdown, a number of WWII veterans showed up at a memorial to their service to find that access had been blocked. The memorial is in a public space and is open 24/7, with almost no oversight from Park Police …”

    LOl Dude.

Its a little to late to start worrying now. For What Its Worth has probably been on the “public safety” radar for a long time. At least on the local/state/regional level.

No disrespect intended my man, but you do fit a profile pattern.
Local PD has to cover their own asses here. Today, those local lists’ do not say in house, they all are kicked up.

@t, GPD has a regular visitor here. His name, not so coincidentally, is GPDFolk. He knows Chris well. He also knows Chris is no threat to anyone. Dullard Bill’s another story though.

    • t

You are an officer of the court, no? How do you know what gpdfolk thinks.

People WHO Know Chris, understand that he is a highly intelligent talented writer who is spectacular in the use of satire and trolling for response.

Algorithms and intel analyst don’t give a shit -that folks who hang out in church basements lack a filter and- that its just talk for tongue in cheek entertainment sake.

Chris F, did you watch Carson’s whole speech?
I heard the brilliant man’s words, all of them, but I couldn’t take my eyes off our F—head-in-chief, as he struggled to stay awake by looking completely disinterested, unimpressed, and even at times indignant.
What a goddam pantload he is.
    God help us.

    • Mark B

And I can’t help wondering if Michelle is sitting there thinking, “Man, I shoulda married that guy….”
