Two bits of wisdom

Jim Treacher:

Remember: The people telling you a government shutdown [and sequestration – Ed] is a disaster are the same ones who told you 3 weeks ago that we had to invade Syria.

NICK GILLESPIE:

GOP “Anarchists” Now Talking About Reopening…National Parks? “In a Washington where 95 percent of Department of Education employees were sent home today because they are ‘non-essential,’ I’d think twice about simply moving to restore pre-shutdown funding to the government. It would be nice to dust off actual budget proposals and start talking about what the government should do and how much (or how much little) it should spend in pursuit of those goals.”

The concept of zero-based budgeting is not new; it just hasn’t been used in Washington before. Here’s our chance.

Obama’s Syrian war hoop debacle was a personally devastating blow to his crystalline fragile ego. His credibility as CinC was shattered both domestically and globally. The Russians and Chicoms certainly now know what they likely always suspected: he is a weak-minded fool.

Although I am not a fan of a lot of Netanyahu’s policies, I happened to be greatly impressed by his speech at the UN yesterday at noon – here is a LEADER with true conviction and courage, as opposed to our pathetic president (I can’t bear to listen to him or see him anymore) whose only skill is passing the proverbial buck. Zero based budgeting would be a significant improvement in the federal budgeting process.

Eliminating entitlements entirely and re-casting all social welfare budgeting as subject to annual review under a balanced budget requirement would also be a big improvement.

The fedgov should not be in the business of re-distribution of any kind, whether it be material resources or the imposition of social judgments and prerogatives. There is absolutely no reason for fedgov to dominate social safety nets – like most other things fedgov does, they completely suck at it.

I love the email to CNN which asked “why do we have non-essential government employees?” Really.
