    I understand that people are rising from the dead, reading this story, and then shooting themselves in the head and going back to lay down.

    Cutting off the Amber Alert system seems to be a particularly Machevellian strategy: The rationale seems to be that any missing/abducted children who subsequently turn up dead as a result can be used to the WH’s political advantage here. In reality, I suspect that the outpouring of anger would be equally distributed against both parties – against the entire Congress and the WH, not just at Reps. I’d really like to hear Jay Carney argue that staffing the Amber Alert system website was “not essential” when something horrible happens.

    Actually, the amberalert.gov site is back up now. Looks like they’ve had enough criticism about that.

    And I’m not defending their decision, because I think this whole situation is ridiculous and begs for a complete flush of DC, but the AMBER alert site was purely informational and not the AMBER alert system.
