French manufacturing index plummets
But cheer up, France’s socialist president François HollandeFrancois has admited that taxes have become “too heavy, much too heavy” and says he’ll get around to fixing that, someday.
Meanwhile, Hollande’s pet revenue enhancer, the country’s new 75% tax on millionaires and corporations, kicks in today. That’ll fix things. Trouble in paradise? Hardly – France is on the brink of achieving exactly what progressives have demanded for the past century. Success is in hand.
Expect to hear a little more French around town this year.
What a shame that Le Bec Fin in Cos Cob closed. That was a fun little restaurant.
Unfortunate that Jean Louis closed as well.
Richard, Unfortunately that joint predates my time in Gwich.
Cos Cob’s Mill Pond shopping center. Very decent french bistro where, back in 1978ish, you could have dinner for two, including a decent bottle of wine, for around thirty bucks. Not cheap in that era’s dollars, but certainly reasonable, and the food, service and ambience was above what one might expect in that price range. Nice place.
Yes it was. I used to go there with my parents when I lived in OG.
Irving Kristol said a neo-conservative is a liberal who has been mugged by reality. Hollande is currently being mugged.
Reminds us of why we left France.
Soon DeBlasio will have his mugging.
The years ahead will be fascinating for the EU. Fire in France, hire in Germany. Borrow in France, lend in Germany. This can’t go on forever.
we’re catching up:
