Fast food doesn’t cause obesity in children, bad parents do. Gosh, next they’ll tell us that school achievement isn’t linked to underpaid teachers and lack of school administrators.

Russian Olympics sound like a drag.
U.S. national security and law enforcement agencies monitoring security at the Sochi Olympics say the southern Russian city faces a high risk of an Islamist terrorism attack. One message from a security analyst to those considering attending the Winter Games: Don’t go.
Okay, I won’t.

This week’s Democrat caucus saw the ouster of renegades Sean Goldrick and Randy Huffman from party leadership and their replacement by two more go-along types, our new BOE PTA mommies, LauraErickson and Debbie Appelbaum.
It’s nothing to me; more compliant Democrats running around town is a good thing, but if I were a Democrat, proud of my party and its determination to fleece my greedy, grasping, selfish neighbors, I’d be pissed, and at least one of them is:
“Sean is a wonderful Democrat and a victim of speaking his mind,” [Betty] Bonsai said. “I’m very upset and disappointed by this. I like (Goldrick’s) outspokenness, as a proud Democrat. But a run of Democrats are new Democrats, unaffiliated or Republicans until recently….”
“It’s disturbing,” she said. “It’s petty and it’s kind of malicious.”
Sounds like politics as usual, Betty; suck it up.

Woman bilked of $500,000 by Nigerian scammer she “met” on Christianmingle.com.
The case of the 66-year-old woman conned out of her money through a meeting on ChristianMingle.com should serve as a warning about fraud schemes on international dating sites, Deputy District Attorney Cherie Bourland said.
“You get the love drug in you and you end up getting duped,” Bourland said.

Links are still expiring as soon as I post them but here, briefly are the details.
236 Bedford Road, $1.450 million. Sellers paid $1.625 for this house in 2008 and poured a lot of money into renovations, so the buyer got a deal. I loved this antique, and its location, but the Bedford border is a long way from downtown.
67 Sound Beach Avenue, $1.150 million. Meh.
4 Pilot Rock Road, Riverside, one acre, $5 million. That’s the going price for waterfront these days. A perfectly decent house, but it’s not long for this earth; land sale.

Obama drops in for a vist at (one of) the Weinstein mansions. At the request of Mr. Weinstein, the gentlemen behind Obama are disarmed.
Harvey Weinstein, who recently increased his own security detail to guard against crazed scientologists, claims he’s making an anti-gun movie “that will make the NRA wish they weren’t alive after I’m done with them”.
Mr. Weinstein, who claims that no one (except, presumably, his armed body guards) needs a gun in America, also stated that he would have use a gun himself if his life were threatened but only, apparently, if he were being marched to a gas chamber. “Otherwise, okay, they got me, fair and square”.
Most Hollywood celebrities employ armed guards to protect them, and Mayor Bloomberg travels with at least six at all times. But as they’ll be the first to tell you, they are far more important than you, and must protect their lives for the good of the country.

California now requires bartenders to wear gloves. I’ve never heard of anyone contracting a sickness from a dirty bar glass or ice cube, although I’m sure it may happen, occasionally, but I have heard of drunk drivers killing people and, worse, numerous cases of the Irish flu. Talk about being sick!
But let’s not worry about that now.
