Budget buster

How'm I suposed to come up with two billion bucks?

How’m I suposed to come up with two billion bucks?

Suit claiming that CT underfunds its schools by $2 billion slated to start September 9th.

On a state budget of $37.6 billion, and extra $2 billion may not seem that much, but we’re already facing $billion deficits in each of the next three years, and that’s despite this year’s one-time accounting tricks. Our constitution requires a balanced budget, so that billion, plus the extra $2 if the funding suit is lost, will have to come from somewhere – where would Hartford look to do that, whose pockets could it pick?

Whose sponsoring; the NEA or Malloy?

After this landmark case can we sue for unequal distribution? And why 2B, why not 100B?

To me, the billion dollar question is why it takes literally hundreds of billions more today to educate children than it did back in the dark ages of the ’60’s, when I was a little head full of mush.

I leave it up to YOU, too, dear readers – as to whether you believe the education received in 2014 is superior to that of the ’50’s and ’60’s.

In specific order, I blame the special needs fiasco, growth of education bureaucracies, central planning from DC, scam colleges, sports factories and a constant effort to reinvent the wheel every few years in order to spend more money and avoid teaching the basics. Just for starters.

The premise seems to be that rivers of money create educational success. False.
The method seems to be that obstinate, years-long litigation against government helps people. False.
And if stupid methods are being used to promote fruitless liberal causes in Connecticut, we can have confidence Yale Law School is in the middle of it.

It’s the high salaries paid to administrators that kill many schools. There’s a school in the city designated one of the worst, if not the worst. No gym. No books. The principal gets a cool $128k, sports fur coats, drives a new BMW x5 and really doesn’t care for interacting with hoi polloi kids and their parents so she just doesn’t bother coming to school.
Will she get fired? Not on your life. Her union job is secure even if she’s a flagrant abuser of the system and doesn’t give a rats ass about the children under her wing. Disgusting. Poor kids.

But it’s the fiscal conservatives, the Republicans and the libertarians who are the EEEVIL meanies who hate children and don’t want to see them get a decent education.

      Yeah. Right.

  5. I see a statewide property tax in your future. By exempting the first million in value it can be a de facto Fairfield county tax paid to Hartford.
