Some good came from the Trayvon Martin case after all

Girl revealed as an illiterate at the trial can now read and has graduated high school.

One year after being outed as illiterate in the George Zimmerman murder trial, Trayvon Martin’s friend Rachel Jeantel is a changed woman after graduating from high school.

Jeantel underwent seven hours of tutoring a day after her reading skills were ridiculed when she testified during the Florida trial last year at age 19. At the time, she had a fourth-grade reading level.

“Very, very, very tough,” she told ABC News of the tutoring. “That’s what I needed.”

With the help of friend and lawyer Rod Vereen, who arranged the tutoring, she hopes to graduate college one day.

Far more useful assistance than Al Sharpton or the president supplied. It’s also a testament to the grit of this girl who much of the world -including myself, unfortunately – ridiculed. Seven hours a day learning to read? I hope she travels far, and well.

  1. Brings a tear to my eye. This girl has determination, the most important attribute of any human being. And she had help from others concerned with her future who knew how, and were willing to help. Exemplifies the best of who we Americans are, we care for our brothers and sisters.

The ridicule was the kick in the ass she needed. Today, she’s actually got something to be genuinely proud of because she worked hard to obtain it, not because someone else gave it to her. Now I wish her well too.

Now if we can get her to start reading The Bible, the Constitution, Ayn Rand, Thomas Sowell and de Tocqueville…

      …but yeah, good on her.

    Good for her.

    Dude –
I also wish her well, and I do think the public humiliation resulted in her turning her life around. So good for her and her hopefully continued future success.

But how did a functional illiterate MAKE IT TO HIGH SCHOOL? That is the effect these progressive teachers, supported by a corrupt Union, have. CHURNING OUT MORONS!!

And if Ms. Jeantel can if fact read now, I would like her to please read this:
    STOP EATING TWINKIES!!

    Your Pal,
    Walt

Better late than never I guess. I have to admit I’m surprised. Undoubtedly many years of taxpayer funded college to come, so hopefully she can support herself some day. We can always hope…..
