Although this one is easy. The true victim here, University of California Santa Barbara feminist studies professor (field of specialization, “queer theory, black film, and pornography”) Mireille Miller-Young was “triggered”by seeing a poster of a fetus held by a sixteen-year-old demonstrator.
Miller-Young pleaded no contest last month to misdemeanor counts of battery, theft and vandalism after she rallied up a small gaggle of female vigilantes and attacked abortion protesters Thrin Short, 16, and Joan Short, 21. The radical feminist armada forcibly stole a graphic anti-abortion sign from the two protesters. Miller-Young scratched and appeared to push the 16-year-old girl, then destroyed the sign.
As Miller-Young awaits sentencing, her colleagues have weighed in with expert exculpatory defenses of their own, all of which focus on the angry professor’s status as a victimized fat/black/lesbian/female. For instance, feminism professor Eileen Boris tackles the unfortunate circumstance that Miller-Young was grinning throughout her attack on the petite protestor, a fact that ordinary people might interpret as a sign of a bully enjoying herself. Not so, Butler tells the court, it’s actually a manifestation of 300 years of oppression:
“If she appears smiling on camera, she is ‘wearing the mask,’ that is, she is hiding her actual state through a strategy of self-presentation that is a cultural legacy of slavery.”
This, of course, is the famous “Tracks of My Tears Defense”, first propounded and discussed by Professor William “Smokey” Robinson, Jr., in 1965.
People say I’m the life of the party
‘Cause I tell a joke or two
Although I might be laughing loud and hearty
Deep inside I’m blue
So take a good look at my face
You’ll see my smile looks out of place
If you look closer, it’s easy to trace
The tracks of my tears
The professor herself more prosaically attributed her actions to being “triggered in a negative way”, and insisted to her arresting officer that “her students were wanting me to protect them” (presumably, professor Miller’s sub-specialty is Ebonics). So, she claimed, “she acted in defense of her students and her own safety.”
I like her colleague’s “the debbil’ white man made me do it” theory better, but it’s California, so what difference, at this point, does it make? She’ll skate, and continue her career sucking on the taxpayer’s teat.
The National Association of Realtors — one of the most powerful lobbying groups in Washington — wants regulators to block the $3.5 billion merger of Zillow and Trulia, The Post has learned.
The two companies, which rely on advertising from real estate agents for the bulk of their revenues, are the leading Web sites for home listings.
The trade group’s similar offering, realtor.com, is a distant third.
David Lykken, head of consultant Mortgage Banking Solutions, said he believes the National Association of Realtors is nervous about the merger.
“Their perception is this is the beginning of our end. This is going to turn control to consumers,” he said. “This will begin to retard their power, but that is not such a bad thing.”
Lykken said real estate agents can spend less time driving clients around to see homes if their customers use the sites to educate themselves in advance.
“I ask realtors who do not like the sites, ‘Have you ever lost a sale to them?’ And they say no,” he said. “This forces the realtor to up their game.”
He also doubted that Zillow would raise ad prices once it completes the purchase of Trulia.
“I predict the deal will happen,” he said.
The boy was cuffed and taken to the 90th Precinct station house, where he was expected to be charged with grand larceny, sources said.
When reached at her home, the boy’s mom chided Vondrich for grabbing her son.
“She has her hands all over him,” she said when she saw photos of the bust. “Why is she touching him like that?”
After making her son the victim, Mamma doubled up:
“He’s a very good boy, “he’s just been hanging out with the wrong crowd.”
Caught by a girl? There goes his street cred, forever.
Despite photographs published in every public news source of Russian truck convoys entering Ukraine, the president, who is proud of the fact that he finds out what’s happening in the world by reading the papers, remains unaware of the situation.
“He’s on vacation,” White House spokesman John Dean told FWIW, “and he’s found that reading that kind of stuff ruins his swing. He’ll look into it when he returns next month.”
Their leader’s Putin, ours is puttin’ – game over.
