Your fund dollars at work

Thanks to all you kind readers who contributed to The John Fund, John, assisted by his sister Sarah, moved out of a friend’s apartment in Portland today and into a   cottage in Scarborough, 10 minutes or so from the Portland hospital, but a mere block from the ocean. A portion of the money raised has enabled him to invite his long time (since Riverside School kindergarten) friend Jordan to move up to Maine to stay with him. Jordan’s a fantastic artist but that doesn’t pay well, usually, so he gets a place to stay, John has companionship and someone to keep him in groceries and get him to medical appointments. Sarah and Pal Nancy are nearby, but Jordan will be a real enrichment for John and, with Winslow Homer’s Black Point studio around the corner, maybe an inspiration for Jordan.

So here are some pictures of the new digs – John had round II of chemo today, and they sent him off with his poison-pac he’s named “Tonto” so that, he says, he can be known as “Chemosabe”. He’s a wise ass, like his proud father.

    Dude –

Glad to hear John is maintaining a positive attitude. That is so important. And also that he is mature enough not to piss all of the cash away on hookers and blow, because that is what I would have done. I AM NOT PROUD OF IT BUT I AM HONEST!!

Anyhows, I have a serious question. NO REALLY!! Is he covered by Obamacare? Are they helping with the cost of this? I sincerely hope so.

And if he is feeling up to it, that house could be PARTY CENTRAL DUDE!! Lobsters on the Barbie, beach music, and nude twister!! With real girls Dude. You homo. We still have a few weeks of decent weather left. Let’s book a road trip!!

How long will it take us to get to Oregon Dude? And is that a legal Mary Jane state? I HOPE SO!! But stay positive. The only time you fail is when you fall down and stay down.

    Your Pal,
    Walt

    • Walt, John’s in Portland Maine, his sister Kat’s in Portland Oregon. Pot’s legal, or might as well be, in both places, but Kat’s bluegrass and rocker friends probably put on a better party, for now.

I live in San Diego Chris. My family moved to Greenwich just 3yrs ago.
They often spoke of you. I read it every morning. I think of your son often and wonder how he’s doing. Thank you for your post about him. I wish him well and pray for him.

  8. Beautiful!!!!! Soon, with a little good luck, they should be able to catch the Northern Lights.

Do you mean Portland, Maine & marsh as in Scarborough Marsh?

Wishing John the best, and peace and love in that beautiful place.

I can envision John & Jordan spending hours on that deck. If Jordan doesn’t yet paint landscapes, he’s in a perfect spot to create them. The grasses & light are beautiful & always changing & there must be so many birds. The night stars are beautiful, too. A great place to rest & have peace.

Scarborough is a gorgeous spot. I’m from the school that healing comes from from being in serene surroundings as much as it is the body’s ability to fight.

As a side note, I see The Give Forward fundraising site has finally removed the line that said X Days Left. Of course it referred to the time allotted to raise the money but it was creepy and wrong to put it on a site helping those with life threatening diseases. I complained right to the head honcho. He said I was not alone.
