A lovely home, but when will its time finally come?

1 Harbor Drive

1 Harbor Drive

The listing for 1 Harbor Drive, Belle Haven, has been renewed again today, almost five years after it started off at $20 million. Like the house itself, the price is still there, unchanged over all this time. No one admires a stubborn seller more than I do, but clearly, either the market has to rise significantly or these owners must content themselves with continuing to live in a house with a very expensive price tag that isn’t tempting buyers.

that place is more Voysey than victorian.

what’s going on here? the canapé serving dog i get, but, the kid?

    • That’s one of the oddest staging pictures I’ve seen. Exercise machine, football on the sofa, stiff child and a canapé serving dog, and that’s just what a quick perusal yields – there are probably lots of other hidden details, like one of those old High Life For Children puzzles at the back of the magazine.

Seeing as how the house is listed as having been built in 1893, and seeing as how it is listed as coming with 2.9 acres of land, I would guess by looking at the photo of Belle Haven in 1895 shown below that the house was originally built on a much larger waterfront tract of land.

If you click on the photo, it will take you to the Greenwich Library link where it is shown in a much larger size.

Here’s the Greenwich Hospital circa 1890. I love all of these old photos: they remind me of where I’m living now, which hasn’t changed much since the 1800s, including that many people (the Amish) still travel by horse and buggy.

Cos Cob option on the garage – two car doors and one dump truck/backhoe.
