Beating a dead horse

Get up, damn you!

45 Farwell Lane, way up north in Eskimo country, has raised its price again, this time to $5.995 million, from last year’s unsuccessful $5.450. The place has been on forever, and the subject of repeated guffaws here about its owner’s pricing decisions during that time as she’s raised and lowered her demands, from $9.1. to $8.5, to $9.350 to $6.5 and so on, all to no avail.

So why mention it again? Because, in a way, this kind of dogged determination is sort of inspirational.

The shifting sands of politics

The shifting sands of politics

In what amounts to a seismic jolt in the small world of Greenwich politics, Selectman Peter Tesei announced today that his opponent in the upcoming election, Ms. Lee Whitnum, has withdrawn from the race, enrolled as a Republican and been appointed the new Greenwich Harbor Master. Whitnum will replace incumbent Ian Macmillan, who will now oversee the construction of the Byram pool project and, together with FWIW’s Lovable Whack Job, Bill Effros, will head the Greenwich High School Music Hall Building Committee..

“Speaking candidly,” Tesei told FWIW, “i think it’s fair to say that Lee sort of scares all of us, so getting her out of the race is a relief. And putting Ian and Bill into positions where they can really add their insight into our decision process is just a huge plus.”

Old Greenwich sale

11 Webb Avenue

11 Webb Avenue

11 Webb Avenue, new construction, sold for$2.4 million. Nice house, but $2.4 million on Webb? Sheesh. Listing claims 5,000 share feet, but at least 800 of that must be basement, and the little detached garage in back further subtracts from that figure.

Mid-country sale

16 Mackenzie Glen

16 Mackenzie Glen

16 Mackenzie Glen (off North Street, near Clapboard Ridge Road), has sold for $1.450 million, a year after it hit the market at $1.799. That first price is understandable, because the sellers paid $1.750 million for the place in 2010.
