Why bother with facts when you can just throw the lie out there and move on?

Clinton blames New York’s gun deaths on weapons imported from Vermont.

Speaking of Clinton’s comments made during a closed-door meeting the day before with Democratic lawmakers and lobbyists in Albany, New York State Sen. Tim Kennedy told Politico “She said that it’s going to be coming out in the very near future that many of the catastrophes that have taken human lives in the State of New York have been the product of guns coming over the border from Vermont.”

Federal statistics undermine Clinton’s claim. Data collected by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives show that of the guns recovered by police in New York, less than one percent came from Vermont.

In 2014, out of 7,686 firearms recovered and traced in New York, only 55 were first purchased in Vermont.

That’s compared to 371 that came from neighboring Pennsylvania.

In 2013, 61 of the 8,539 guns recovered and traced in New York came from Vermont.

It is unclear what data Clinton is using for her claim, but her campaign has indicated that she will continue to make it. Robby Mook, Clinton’s campaign manager, repeated the line of attack during an interview Tuesday morning on CNN.

It’s all about racism. Racism and money, of course

Malaysian flogging

Malaysian justice meted out for flogging someone else’s monkey

PayPal kills plan to open office in North Carolina due to that state’s passage of a no boys in the girls’ room act, while cheerfully doing business in Malaysia, which whips and jails  gays.

“Look,” PayPal CEO Dan Schulman said, “nobody expects the wogs to share our own high standards of human rights; they’re incapable of it, and it’d be cruel to hold them to a white’s more sophisticated understanding of human rights.

“So sure – we keep offices all over wog land, from Malaysia  to Singapore to Dubai, all countries which just beat the living hell out of queers, but all countries where a white man can make a killing, if he knows what he’s doing.”

According to Schulman, PayPal’s decision to kill 400 jobs “reflects PayPal’s deepest values and our strong belief that every person has the right to be treated equally, and with dignity and respect. Besides that”, he added, “savages don’t give a rat’s ass about their gays, but we could face a boycott from the fruitcakes here at home, and that can cost us mucho dinero – it’s our moral obligation to our shareholders to take this bold step, and protect their financial interests.”

Mayfair Lane sale

26 Mayfair

26 Mayfair Lane

26 Mayfair Lane, which has just under 5 acres. Listed for $7.995 in 2013, it finally sold today for $4.8 million. Gracious, 1938 exterior, less-than-gracious 1960s decorating job inside. But that can be fixed.

Rare, red formica: you just can’t find the stuff anymore!

At first glance, that looks like a 2016 drone on the ceiling, but it’s probably a 1980 overhead projector. Do you suppose that’s a mimeograph machine next to the fireplace?

And speaking of Lockwood …

50 Lockwood ave

50 Lockwood Avenue

50 Lockwood Avenue, which reported a pending deal last month, now has a mere contingent one. A “pending” contract means one with all contingencies satisfied and those rarely go astray, but sometimes they do, as apparently happened here. In any event, the sellers found someone new.

A great one passes

EOS alerts us that Merle Haggard has died, at 79. One of my fun memories of the Merle goes back to maybe 1970 or 71, when my best friend Teddy Sumner and I, both long hairs, would wander into some redneck bar or another and load up the juke box with quarters, and sit back while “Okie from Muskogee” , Haggard’s paen to short hair, the flag, and booze not dope  – ” love beads and Roman sandals won’t be seen, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, USA” was a typical lyric -, played a dozen times or so. Tensions were high between good ol’ boys and hippies back then, and after the 5th or so playing, Teddy and I would start getting some fairly mean looks from some of the other bar patrons, as they looked around the room to see who was playing the song, and spy us.

Teddy and I were looking for the fun of disruption, not a fight, so we’d shuffle off before anything bad happened, but it was damn good entertainment.

But I loved his music, and he wrote some fabulous songs. Here’s my favorite, “Big City”:

10% price cut

250 Old Church Road

250 Old Church Road

250 Old Church Road, from $3.3 million to $3. Since this is an opinion column – for readers as well as this hack – I feel free to say that I really like this house, and its location, and the land it sits on. It’s beautifully made, and attractive, in a Hobbitty-sort of way, to my eye.

Different market

38 Lockwood Lane

38 Lockwood Lane

Unlike 39 Jones Park Drive, I’m not particularly surprised that 38 Lockwood Lane, asking $1.925 million and also listed last June, took until today to find a (contingent) buyer, especially since it started off back then at $2.295: it sits on I-95.

But unlike the Jones Park house, this one is in what realtors like to call “move in condition”, and that appeals to a different buyer than those with the willingness and the time to delay a move for 3-9 months while a house is being renovated.

That said, if I did have the time, and the choice between Riverside Lane and Jones Park, I’d go with Jones Park in a heartbeat. There’s not much upside to this house in terms of what you can do to improve it, but there is at Jones.

I’m surprised this took so long

39 Jones Park Drive

At $1.975 million, 39 Jones Park Drive offered a decent house on one of the nicest street in Riverside, and with its 1/2 acre in the R-20 zone, it should have been attractive to builders too, but not the case, and it took from last June 15th until now to find a buyer.

But buyer it has. Good for the owner.

Pot, meet kettle

Alexander McQueen and Hillary

The Old Bag of the People, yesterday: Hillary arrives for her haircut toting a $1,645 Alexander Mcqueen purse

The difference is that Trump revels in his wealth: Hillary pretends hers doesn’t exist.

Hillary, on Trump I wish he’d get out of his ivory tower and actually walk the streets

The former secretary of state and first lady is a [multi-multi-] millionaire and was seen Thursday getting her hair done at luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman, where a cut and blow dry goes for $600.

Clinton was said to have her hair styled by John Barrett Salon owner John Barrett himself.

She showed up in four black cars with aide Huma Abedin, Page Six reported.

The last time Clinton was seen strolling the streets of her city, as she suggested Trump ought to, was months ago.
