The sun never sets on the Greenwich empire

It’s 2007, real estate woes are begining to afflict the rest of the country so Greenwich Time Post (just before they hired me, I hope) sends out its best reporter to interview real estate agents about the state of affairs in the old home town. The conclusion. Things are great, never better, and will stay that way forever and ever, amen!

Jackie Hammock must have dropped acid just before the interview.

    Say what!!!

Just goes to prove the old adage; there are lies, damn lies and then statistics (gov. unemployment #s for example).

The other funny thing is that 2 of the 3 realtors quoted have been trying to offload their own houses for years…one succeeded after many, many price reductions and the other has failed so far..
Pure spin, nothing else..keep taking those pills…

Come on CF…I’m bored with these trivial postings. Do you have any juicy updates on BJ O’Rourke and the amazing technicolor house?

    off to Barbados

    Kind regards,

your a lawyer, is this criminal?? it sure doesn’t help the market clear.

sorry, no way the article is from this year. I could read it and find out, but real estate drivel turns my stomach.

I especially like the part about how there are no house flippers in Greenwich.

I got a similar newsletter from a different Greenwich CB Realtor I know well. I asked her point blank why she would send such misguided information. Deer in the headlights was her expression at my posing; she had no answer. I say finding a GOOD Realtor when buying/selling is harder than finding a doctor. The ones quoted in this article won’t get my business. But, hey, they shouldn’t care since the market has no evidence of a real estate slump. Right?

If things are so great in Camelot, I wonder if the reporter bothered to ask them how many houses they have sold in Greenwich this year?

It’s nice to hear that things are so rosy in Greenwich – I still have family there. Here is lowly, plebian Westchester, the residential market is sucking wind.

I wasn’t surprised that Geithner can’t sell. Larchmont is kind of a nothing little town.

    Hey Dude –
Have you focused on this, or just dropped it quicker than Greenwich real estate prices?http://www.uslaw.com/pop/stephanie-seymour-vs-peter-brant-supermodel-vs-billionaire-divorce-starts-ugly/?p=186
If the BJ’s bar concept doesn’t pan out – and it will – the Greenwich Housewives concept will work. And we need this little hottie. I still can’t believe she married Buddy Hackett. Tell her I have some room on Round Hill and she can bunk over. Do me a solid for once. You loser.
    WORM!!!
    Your Pal,

David Ogilvy must be thanking his lucky stars that he wasn’t interviewed for this article.

Oh, and the Magnificent Andersons! Those of the pizza contests and Greenwich Guides. The Zagats of Greenwich. Maybe they ought to go into that business full time.

Greenwich couldn’t withstand the complete implosion of Wall Street and the financial services industry any more than Grosse Pointe could withstand the collapse of the automobile industry.

The big difference is that Wall Street collapsed almost overnight, and the auto industry has been in decline for years. So in fairness, I can forgive the people interviewed in this article for not anticipating what was to come – if they had they could have shorted the market and would all be billionaires today.

I agree lets get to some interesting topix like how North street is taking the whole town down! 634 is now the latest and no doubt greatest monument to BAD TASTE that Greenwich has ever seen. If I were a neighbor I would sue for reckless property devaluation!
